Northeast Michigan Antique Trail
The Sunrise Coast of northeastern Michigan is infamous for the hundreds of shipwrecks that litter the underwater floor of the lake. But its treasures are hidden in more places than deep below the water’s surface. All along Route 23, which runs from Mackinaw City to Standish, some of the best antique stores in the state are packed full of their own treasures, and most are older than the region’s shipwrecks!
Tawas City is a good starting point. It’s not a far drive and you can work your way back up towards Oscoda and the Huron House and stop for a light lunch in East Tawas along the way. You’ll find almost ten unique antique shops in the 16-mile stretch between towns.
Located about five miles south of Tawas City, the Alabaster Corner Store has a variety of repurposed items with a focus on hand-tooled leather products, garden décor, embroidery, and rustic cabin décor. It also has a Victorian-era tea parlor inside. Visit their website. Tawas City hosts two antique malls, Finders Keepers, which sells old antiques as well as new merchandise, and Fabulous Finds. Both are open daily 10:30AM to 5PM Monday through Saturday and 12-4PM Sunday. In East Tawas, you’ll find Back Room Antiques & More. They carry furniture, primitives, quilts, and books, as well as much more.
Eight miles north of East Tawas, you’ll find McNamara Antique Mall, a veteran owned and operated mall that hosts many dealers. Ryland Co. Inc. can be found five miles south of Oscoda at Point Road and the 14,000 square feet of Hobarts Furniture & Antiques about a mile and a half south of town.
