March is maple sugaring seasoning in Michigan, making this nature's sweetest time of year! It's the natural world's signal that winter is transitioning to spring, because collecting maple sap requires a delicate balance between below-freezing nights and warmer days. Michigan ranks fifth in the nation for maple syrup production, with an economic impact of nearly $2.5 million annually. It's considered Michigan’s oldest agricultural activity, dating back to early Native Americans who lived here long before Michigan became a state.

Here in Michigan we know a little something about beer. In fact, we're fifth in the nation in the number of breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs. And while Grand Rapids may be known as Beer City USA, Oscoda and its surrounding communities are home to some outstanding craft brew works where you can find your perfect pour. Do you prefer a dark and smooth porter or a light, crisp lager? Or maybe a hoppy IPA with a bitter finish? No matter what style of beer quenches your thirst, these small yet amazing craft breweries are worth checking out on your next trip.

Boasting more than 120 lighthouses along its 3,200 miles of shoreline, Michigan has the distinction of having more lighthouses than any other state in the U.S. These towering lakeside lights have played a historic role in keeping the Great Lakes safe for nearly two centuries. One of our favorites is the Tawas Point Lighthouse, located at the end of a sandy peninsula that separates Tawas Bay from Lake Huron.
