Anchors Away on the AuSable River Queen
For an unforgettable experience on water, treat your special someone to a cruise on the AuSable River Queen. It's the only paddlewheel riverboat of its kind operating in northern Michigan. This double-decker vessel is modeled after the famous Mississippi River paddleboats and takes passengers on a two-hour journey down the majestic AuSable River.
Check your land legs at the dock and enjoy this amazing sightseeing adventure on the painted lady, adorned in red, white and blue. During the cruise, the AuSable River Queen's captain, Captain Roger, narrates this area's fascinating history. Passengers are entertained as he describes the beautiful scenery and wildlife, showing you where the bald eagles perch along the river's banks. Top off the relaxing journey with a drink or snack from the bar to enjoy while you view the spectacular panoramas.
Fall is the busiest time of year for the AuSable River Queen, as guests flock to take in the splendor of the autumn colors. Because it's a popular fall destination, reservations are required for weekend trips, which run through the third week of October. Fall color is amazing on the river, so be sure to bring your camera to capture the vibrant foliage.
For a more festive cruise, board the AuSable River Queen on the weekends and enjoy live music. They even offer free Friday night sunset excursions, featuring food and drink specials, like $5 margaritas and $3 tacos. Follow their Facebook page where they announce free cruises and other special events like booze cruises and Rock the Pond.
Open Memorial Day until mid-October. Reservations are a must, as cruises fill quickly. Having navigated these waters since 1966, the AuSable River Queen is a must-do activity when you're visiting Oscoda and the Sunrise Side of Michigan.
