Snow Box Derby Celebrating 25 Years
Snow has arrived in Oscoda! The annual Snow Box Derby will be held on February 8, 2015 at Old Orchard Park. An Oscoda tradition, this Derby inspires participants to get creative in making their sleds. Snow boxes can only be made of cardboard, paint, tape and glue. No plain boxes or ski poles allowed. How creative can you get in making a snow box? Remember it must be designed to get you down the hill on the first try. There is no opportunity to do a practice run.
This year’s theme is “25” to celebrate the 25th year of this very unique and exciting event. To participate, pre-registration is required by February 6 along with signed release forms. You can register on race day for additional $5 cash. Gates open at 10:00 am, creative judging at 11:00 am, and the race starts at 12:30 pm. In addition to watching the snow boxes descend the hill, you can participate in snowball golf for the adults or watch the kids play frosty bowling.
The design ingenuity of last year’s winners included a Log Cabin, RV, Beaver, Paul Bunyan, Pontoon, Indian Kayak, Blue Snowmobile and Dog Sled. View photos from last year’s event.
