Automobile aficionados may already have this one in their calendar, but if you don’t, plan a trip for the Tawas Bay Summerfest this July. Held across two days, Summerfest is a classic car cruise and show that features live music, craft brews, and mouthwatering barbecue, as well as an annual 5k run and awards ceremony.
The annual Tawas Kiwanis Run by the Bay 5k takes place on Saturday, July 13th, 2019 at 9 AM. The entry fee is $25. Participants run or walk a course beginning in downtown East Tawas and run through scenic residential streets to finish back on Newman Street in front of Klenow’s Market. Walkers and runners receive a t-shirt. Starting after the race and running until 7 PM is the Summerfest barbecue. The car cruise and auto value event start at 6 PM followed by a street dance featuring “Double Shot” and a downtown display of the classic cars.
On Sunday, visit Newman Street for the car show at 9 AM followed by a disc golf tournament in Dewey Durant Park at 10 AM. The Summerfest event concludes at 3 PM with an awards ceremony. Awards include 26 classes with 1st and 2nd place trophies awarded for each class; voting is by entrants so if you want a say in the matter (or at least more of a say than the People’s Choice Trophy), you better bring your own!
