Ski the Corsair Trails
All of the wonderful ways to enjoy winter’s beauty is almost done, but you can still take advantage of beautiful conditions on our Corsair Trails, one of the Midwest’s most renowned cross-country ski and snowshoe trail systems. With three trailheads located northwest of nearby East Tawas, the twenty-six miles of trails and loops are an experience you’ll never forget as you embrace the breathtaking beauty and tranquility of 150,000-acre Huron National Forest and scenic Silver Valley.
No matter your skill level, you’ll travel these scenic groomed byways beneath snow-capped trees and glide beside ice-locked creeks and rivers. Admire the view from a sunny open vista surrounded by sweet-smelling fir trees in the unspoiled wilderness. On moonlit nights, ski along quiet paths lined with snow-laced evergreens and hardwoods. One popular loop is a 5-mile tour starting at the trailhead reached by crossing Silver Creek. Glide up and down the rolling hills between post Nos. 14 and 15 followed by a long downhill run. Before post No. 17, you’ll come to a log bridge that takes you back across Silver Creek. It’s one of the most enchanting locations in the entire trail system and, if it has freshly snowed, you’ll find yourself in a pristine, storybook spot as Silver Creek carries broken ice past white cedar trees blanketed in untouched snow.
If you’re staying with us at the Huron House, you can cozy up in front of your private fireplace with room service and drinks when you return from the trails!

It is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake, the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam. This crisp winter air is full of it. – John Burroughs
