July Offers two Special Events
For the wine and beer enthusiasts, you’ll want to attend the annual Sunrise Side Wine & Food Festival held the third Saturday in July in Harrisville. Located approximately 17 miles north of Oscoda, the festival features fine wines from Michigan wineries, Michigan brewed beer, exquisite foods from local restaurants, live music, and an art show. This year’s festival is July 18, 2015 from Noon to 6:00 pm at the Flamsville Harbor. With admission, get a souvenir festival glass. A great festival along the sparkling shores of Lake Huron.
On July 22-26, 2015, the community of Oscoda is proud to host the Vietnam Traveling Tribute Wall. This is the largest traveling Vietnam wall replica. This replica provides those without the means to travel to our national memorial sites, the ability to share in the experience of honoring our heroes. The festivities kick off on July 22 with a motorcycle escort of the Wall to the Wurtsmith Air Museum. A Military Vehicle Display will be held in conjunction with the Traveling Vietnam Wall. The police lead escort will include hundreds of motorcycles followed by Historic Military vehicles. The escort begins at 3:30 pm. Opening ceremonies will be held at 6:00 pm on July 23 with keynote speaker Colonel J. Andrew Roberts, Commander, Alpena ANG, a patriotic performance by Victory Trio, and world renown bag piper Don Ross. Throughout the entire event, you can view several historic displays and read the names on the Wall. The 35-member band of the 126th Michigan Army National Guard “Governor’s Own” will hold a free concert on July 24 at 6:00 pm. This is a unique opportunity to honor those who fought for our country.
