Eagle Run Trail Groomed for Fat Bikes
What are fat bikes? Bikes with oversized tires designed to travel over all kinds of terrain such as mud, sandy beaches, bogs and snow. A fat bike is not about speed, but rather allows you to enjoy the outdoors at a slower pace. Over the years, they have grown in popularity with some enthusiasts trading in their mountain bike for a fat bike. Here in Oscoda, the Eagle Run Trail that is part of the larger Corsair Trail system has been widened for multi-use with cross-country skiers and snowshoers. As the ground begins to thaw, there will be plenty of mud to navigate ideal for the fat bike. The trail winds through a wetland and occasionally follows the shoreline of the lower AuSable River. As you meander the 7-mile fairly level trail, watch for wildlife such as deer, turkey, muskrat and bald eagles. The trailhead is about 2.5 miles west on River Road from Oscoda. Parking is available.
