Birds of a Feather: The Tawas Point Birding Festival
Enjoy some of the best birding the Great Lakes region has to offer with the Tawas Point Birding Festival from May 18th to May 20th. With spring in full bloom, Tawas Point is full of migrating warblers, sparrows, raptors, shorebirds, and many more. Test your skills or start something new, but don’t miss out; more than 160 different species of birds were recorded last year and some of these are endangered.
There’s a lot to do at the Birding Festival this year. You can attend presentations like Joanna Eckles’s talk on having a bird-friendly community, take a guided birding walk at some of the area’s hotspots, or just relax along Lake Huron and enjoy the songbirds. This migratory beacon, Tawas Point Lighthouse, is a must-visit for anyone interested in spring birding. You’ll also learn about the conservation work happening throughout Michigan.
For more information about the Tawas Point Birding Festival, register for the event, or look at a full schedule of the events, visit the Michigan Audubon website. Learn what you can do to help make your community a safer place for birds at the Audubon’s website.
You can also take a spring hike on the Sunrise Coast Birding Trail, which starts at the mouth of our famous AuSable River in Oscoda. The 145-mile trail offers an unforgettable glimpse at the diverse populations of birds in the Great Lakes Region, like the endangered Great Lakes Piping Plover.
