Bike Along the Shoreline of Lake Huron
Few things can compare with a Sunrise Side bike excursion along the shoreline of Lake Huron. As one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the entire state, the Huron coast features marshes, cobble and sand beaches, low dunes, meadows, ferns, conifer forests, islands, and swamps providing critical habitats for rare and endangered species. So, whether you’re in it for scenic views, majestic wildlife, or just plain love biking, the Huron Shores Greenways is a system of trails that won’t disappoint.
Breathtaking natural features are abundant on the Alabaster Bike Path, part of the Iron Belle Trail. This paved trail runs from Dyer Road to Townline Road and winds through an arboretum. You can find the Alabaster Bike Path adjacent to the US-23 Heritage Route south of Tawas City.
The Tawas Bay Pedestrian Bike Path picks up where the Alabaster Bike Path leaves off, extending 10 miles along the Lake Huron shoreline for a safe and scenic, off-highway route through Tawas, East Tawas, and finally Tawas Point State Park and its lighthouse.
For more variety, head out into the Huron National Forest to the Corsair Hiking and Cross Country Ski Trail System. The 22-mile trail system winds through the red pine forest along Silver Creek and contains several loops allowing you to customize your outing for half-hour trips to day-long adventures.
To the north of Oscoda, the Huron Sunrise Park Trail returns you to the breathtaking beauty of Lake Huron. Also located on the US-23 Heritage Route, the trail connects Oscoda Township Park with a state park near Van Etten Lake and Cedar Lake.
