At the Huron House, we pride ourselves in taking the time to cater to each of our guests, tailoring your visit to fit your individual needs and expectations. In between winter’s exhilarating outdoor adventures, you may want to slow down and check out some unique antique shops in Oscoda and nearby Tawas City. Note that some of these shops don’t have websites, but you can find them on Facebook.
All of the wonderful ways to enjoy winter’s beauty is almost done, but you can still take advantage of beautiful conditions on our Corsair Trails, one of the Midwest’s most renowned cross-country ski and snowshoe trail systems. With three trailheads located northwest of nearby East Tawas, the twenty-six miles of trails and loops are an experience you’ll never forget as you embrace the breathtaking beauty and tranquility of 150,000-acre Huron National Forest and scenic Silver Valley.
This past year, water levels in the Great Lakes have reached historic highs. As a result, our area lost a significant amount of shoreline. To preserve our pristine beachfront property, the Huron House has installed an ascetically pleasing sea wall in the Spring. We will continue providing summer beach access for our guests as nature allows, however, it is still uncertain how the rising water levels will continue to affect neighboring shoreline access in the coming year.
This is the time of year to celebrate love and romance so why not make once-in-a-lifetime memories and share winter’s adventures together. Whether the two of you want to quietly embrace breathtaking vistas on cross-country skis and snowshoes during the day or on a moonlit night, experience adrenaline-filled snowmobiling or snowkiting, or party at the annual Perchville USA, Michigan’s oldest winter carnival festival, Oscoda and the nearby Tawas Bay area have what you’re looking for.
Imagine how the two of you will feel after luxurious, invigorating hours soaking in your candlelit Jacuzzi and personal outdoor hot tub while the tranquil winter wonderland of Lake Huron stretches before you. Imagine an in-room couple massage followed by sipping champagne and sharing chocolate-dipped strawberries and apples in the warming glow from your private fireplace with the aroma of freshly delivered flowers floating in the air.
Tawas City and East Tawas are great places to get some of your holiday shopping done. With so many antique stores and shops, you’re guaranteed to find a unique gift to surprise someone back home this Christmas. There are even a few locations right here in Oscoda to shop furniture, collectibles, home goods, pottery, glass, and much more. Find a piece of furniture with an interesting past or discover the vintage set of dishes that will complete your set.
Oscoda is the gateway to the Huron-Manistee National Forest and with so many trailheads and access points within such a short distance, it’s hard to pick one and harder to know exactly where it goes. Even in winter, the trails around Oscoda and along the legendary Au Sable River are enjoyed by visitors and residents alike.
It may sound a little out of season at first, but Motor City Kiteboarding offers one of the best experiences in the area in the upcoming months--and it’s guaranteed to get you an adrenaline rush. We’re talking about Motor City Snowkiting school. And if you didn’t know already, Tawas Point is world-famous for being one of the best kiteboarding destinations on the planet!
The Corsair Trail system is one of the Midwest’s most well-renowned cross-country ski trail system, so it goes without saying that we love the time of year when the trails open for the winter. It’s not so much winter as it is ski season; or, more specifically, Corsair season.
When you’re in Oscoda on the shores of Lake Huron, you’re in a fishing paradise. Whether you’re looking for a fun activity to fill an open morning or afternoon or you’ve made a special trip and planned a fishing excursion getaway with someone special, the Au Sable River and Tawas Bay area is one of the best in the region.
